Cheers bru
nice brassards, thanks for putting them up, If you have anymore East Timor related stuff Id love to see it, I started to get into the Aussie involvement over there a couple of years back myself.
So i take it these brassards would be for the UNATET mission then? Did the Kiwis come over as part of the INTERFET mission in 1999 as well?
I can still remember like it was yesterday when we deployed over there was quite an exciting time I was 17 and still in cadets when our parent unit 41st Batt RNSWR went over in 1999, we thought It would be on for young and old.
I actually heard a great story not too long back about Timor, my uncle served in 2RAR/NZ in Vietnam and one of mates he served with was still in the army at this time and was on the then General Cosgrove's staff, and 24 hours before we went over the Timorese rebel leader flew into Darwin for last minute negotiations with Cosgrove, apparently one of the biggest insults in Timorese culture is to leave someone waiting, so Cosgrove left this guy waiting there for an hour or so before he went into speak to him and when he did finally go to see him he was quite pissed off, he went to jump up out of his chair and have a go at him and Cosgrove slammed his finger into his chest and pushed him into his chair and said I will be in Timor in 24 hours If you and your men arent waiting there ready to surrender when I arrive i will use the full force of the Australian Army to hunt you down and kill you all, And without saying a word he left, 24 hours later when the Aussie troops arrived in Timor the majority of the rebel militia were there waiting to surrender.
