This is one of my favorite uniforms. I thought I might share it with those of you that haven't seen it.
It is the 3rd model Jungle Jacket worn by Captain David B. Havas while he was the commander of Special Forces Det A-344 at My An.
David Havas served with Det C-4 in as a 1st LT from 19th Oct 1967.
His assignment at that time is currently unknown, though he was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge as a Capt on 18th March 1968 under 5th SFG(A) order number 5S/68-0078.
Capt Havas became Detachment commander of A-344 on 1st Aug 1968 taking over from Capt Gerhard Frick.
Capt Havas commanded A-344 until 30th March 1969.
During Capt Havas' command of A-344 the Detachment Executive Officer 1st LT Stephen D. Sparks was KIA. This happened on 11th Sept 1968.
Being the only KIA in A-433 during Havas' time there, 1st LT Schubert's death must have a major effect on him.
This uniform along with one other was originally found in a good will store by the author of Tiger Patterns, Richard Denis Johnson.
The SSI and CIB are the only US made insignia. The rest are in-country made examples.
