Re: Removing corrosion ?
Very common stuff for brass fittings on leather. Here's what I do... I use something hard, like a pen cap or perhaps a plastic knife or fork, to clean off the majority of the green goop. Then I use a heavy cloth to wipe the rest off. Something like a "terry cloth" is good because it has good surface area. The goop will eventually come back, but it will take a long time. I'm not aware of anything you can put on it to arrest the process of oxidation that causes the junk.

Re: Removing corrosion ?
Thanks Steve , I was going to use a soft tooth brush to loosen it , Should I treat the leather with anything ??? I am afraid of staining it.

Re: Removing corrosion ?
Yeah, stiff bristle toothbrush would work great. A soft one probably wouldn't work as well.
Personally, I'd not put anything on that leather. Looks in good shape and whatever you do it won't stop the green gunk from happening.

Re: Removing corrosion ?
Sorry for necroposting.
I received a chemical called "Verdi Care" today. It is used by coin collectors to clean away and prevent verdigris. It did a great job of removing the verdigris from the brass snaps of my 1959 Denison Smock. The corrosion was all gone within seconds of applying the chemical. Apparently it helps prevent verdigris formation as well, and doesn't clean all the way down to the metal so you still keep the patina.
My particular case was not that bad, but there were much worse examples on coin collector forums.
Before:
After:
Verdi Care did not effect the cloth neighboring the snaps.
