1977 Special forces 6 color desert jump smock

I finally got my hand on one of these rare items. This one isn't irregular and is very early contact dated 1977, the other i've seen sold have been stamped irregular and have a 1983 contract date.
This jacket is MINT unissued with still cotton dog ends in lots of places. It has buttons inside to take a thermal liner and also features epaulets.




Pockets have the Vietnam/RDF split in the middle

Based on the info I dug up this appears to be the first year of production, second year at most. Great find.

My question: the matching trousers to this jacket looked like the ERDL pants (I mean the cargo pockets) or like BDU trousers soon?

My guess is they would be identical to the Transitional (RDF as some call it). As far as I know there were six uniforms made in this pattern:

1. ERDL Poplin (1976 and highly experimental)
2. ERDL Ripstop Green Dominant ERDL (surplus Vietnam type cloth)
3. ERDL Ripstop Brown Dominant ERDL (surplus Vietnam type cloth)
4. ERDL Ripstop M81/ERDL Hybrid (same colors as M81, but with ERDL shapes. I think not the same as Vietnam)
5. Olive Green Ripstop
6. 6 Color Desert (non-ripstop cotton)

Wow, I didn't even know they were made this early. The earliest I have seen was an 83... GREAT piece!

I love anything 6-color. I actually have a cap, hot weather in this pattern. It has the same date as this jacket.

Can anyone identify the shoulder boards? They came with the jacket, but I do not know if they are original. I think they might be Saudi?

Yup, Saudi rank of Brigadier General. They could very well belong to the jacket as senior officers do what they like Yours is the first one I've seen that's not marked "irregular". Congrats!

Unfortunately they are just standard BDU, even though it came as a set, either he wasn't issued with the trousers, or they didn't exist.

No problem, I just know that I too am going to be looking through every pile of Choc-chip BDU's looking for something amiss.

They are basically the M65 cold weather with RDF buttoned cargo pockets and a button in thermal liner.
