Unknown Middle Eastern Camo and Unknown Beret Empty Unknown Middle Eastern Camo and Unknown Beret

    Post by Camonut314 Mon May 14, 2012 9:32 pm

Like the title says, a DPM style camo uniform, tailored in a typical Middle Eastern style, nice soft, smooth material, without any markings except for a hand written "48" on the shirt and pants. Omani maybe?

Beret is also unknown, and unmarked. African? Asian?

    HELP!

Not a clue on the origin of that DPM uniform, but I really like it! The colouration of the pattern looks really cool.

I don't recognize it either, but I'd say it's highly likely intended for the Middle East. Could be military issue, but probably is police or security of some sort. Whatever it is... it's nice!

The beret could possibly be legit South African 32 BN. But someone else would have to comment on that.

Yeah, I really like the colors too, couldn't believe when I found it in my favorite surplus shop, not a bad price either. Glad to see everyone is as baffled as I am!

I dont Think the Beret is in 32Bn camo but I think it might be Transkei, Transkei was one of the South African semi autonamous Homelamds that were disolved and their defence forces reintergrated into the new SANDF after the elections in 1994

The beret is neither 32 Bn nor Transkei. It's a neat pattern, but I don't know what it is. I just know it's not South African. Wink

Good to see an authority come in and squash the rumors before they get properly started Very Happy

For sure it looks nothing like 32 BN! Damn my fingers for typing so Wink But man it looks familiar. The material looks like the sort of thing you would find in various SA/Homeland uniforms, doesn't it?

Thanks for all the help everyone! I honestly have no Idea where it originates from, all I know is, I found it in the bottom of a pile of hats in the Dan Sen market in Vietnam! I'll post a picture of the interior tomorrow, it is green, lightweight canvas material. Not quite like either US or ARVN uniforms, though.

    Steve,

The pattern on that beret is too compressed, and the wrong shapes, for 32 Bn or any of the Homelands patterns. It does remind me somewhat of the Recce copy "Lebanese blue" pattern, but the shapes are wrong. For me, it has a bit of a Middle Eastern flavor to it, and could be one of the zillions of patterns from the 1980's.

Although, it was found in Vietnam, so we should probably be looking for something that was used in Asia. It's a neat pattern nonetheless, and would look great on a complete uniform.

Here is the inside, note the two grommets that have been ignored, probably evidence of some tailoring along the lines.

Just stumbled upon a picture today that might indicate the mystery DPM uniform is Kuwaiti. But the picture was kinda washed out and the cut is BDU, so maybe not.

Fantastic discovery. You should get in touch with the owner of Camopedia to have it listed on the Omani page.
