They must be.
I was given one by a serving soldier.

I believe they are generally issued whilst recruits are in training, in the Army they are often know as 'Crap Hats'.

Nice desert smocks! I haven't seen one like the Hooper named one before. And the Greenwood named smock is a nice early private purchase, early to mid 90s at a guess.

The Hooper named one reminds me a bit of the FR or aircrew stuff. Maybe its the early variant....

There is this thing I don't get, In my imagination a Artic smock should be very thick and padded/insulated, but they are as thin as most windproofs????

I had the same thought when I began collecting this stuff! Despite its name, the arctic smock is not meant to be a warm garment. In arctic conditions you would normally wear several layers of warm clothing, and the arctic smock is just another lightweight layer with lots of useful pockets to go over the top for added protection from wind chill. The arctic and SAS smocks are the same thing except that the arctic smock has a rank tab on the chest and a much bigger hood with a wire frame, allowing it to fit over a helmet.

A great collection of DPM, DDPM and MTP. I have a few items, army smocks, para smocks etc.....and trousers.

Thanks Jerry, my British stuff already needs an own wardrobe...
But I just like every piece, even if some smocks look quite similar, or the differences are just minor.
