Post by nkomo Sun May 17, 2009 9:43 pm

Was wondering if anyone knows anything about Mike Rowan? I have checked his site daily for uniforms updates...but have not seen one in years. Anyone know what is going on?

Don't know the man. However, I do know a Mike and a Rowan, both avid South African collectors. Is that close enough? Wink

    Steve,
Mike Rowan ran Militaria Market, a website that dealt specefically with African militaria. His items were good and prices very good.

As far as a Mike and a Rowan.....not quite close enough I'm afraid! Very Happy

    Heh, heh. Pretty funny!

The last thing I bought from Mike was a SWA Special Forces vest last September. Got it for stupid cheap too I might add. He hasn't updated his website in well over a year, and most of the sections have been blank for the last few months.

I should probably shoot him an email to see if he is still kicking about. You're quite right Arch, the man got some neat stuff for VERY cheap prices. Kinda hard to do that in todays SA militaria scene.

Would be even funnier if I hadn't forgot to leave the "W" out when I wrote Roan's name Smile But man, what a coincidence!

Another big time dealer that has been unofficially retired is Leo Karlin. IIRC he always had bits of African stuff hanging about. His website hasn't been updated in years, but as far as I know he hasn't sold out and therefore still has most of the stuff on his site socked away in storage. Great guy, reasonable prices, always great to deal with.

Morning Gents, received an email this morning asking whether I would like to join the forum. Recognize some "friendly faces" already.

I am sure Mike is still up and about, have not spoken to him in a while, but am sure he is fine. With running a website myself I know exactly how much time it takes to keep it up to date. May be best to contact him and find out what he has new in stock.

I must admit I am not too active on forums, just don't get the time for it, but if anyone has questions relating to Southern African militaria that Mike and Roan cannot answer, give me a try and I will see what I can do for you.

    Best wishes to all

Welcome aboard, James! Mr. MacKenzie is another GREAT source for African militaria. His prices are good and he finds some GREAT pieces. A large portion of my African collection has come from this gentleman. I highly recommend him to any potential buyers of African militaria. Very honest dealer with good prices!

    Gidday Boys

Seems like people are talking about me and I'm not even part of the conversation !!! I'm glad the issue of the spelling of my name has been sorted :-)

I was in touch with Mike last week so he's still going strong. It's just long periods between his updates.

    Cheers

Once again, he hasn't updated a lot of stuff in over a year, so I don't know what he actually has available.

Greetings from KZN. We're trying to pull in a lot more SA militaria for sale on our eBay hogspear site so any leads gratefully received. We currently have a first class collection of global insignia, including a large quantity of Southern African material for sale. All good wishes, Mary.
