Looking to add a Soviet "Afghanka" Panama hat to the collection. Im a bit concerned about all the fakes out there. Are the factory stamps inside the hat a reliable indicator of a real Soviet era item? Im considering ordering one from RussianArmySurplus. Anyone have any experience with them? Thanks -Z

You should check if the item is from military stock. Russian shops do not sell used Russian items. So, if you ask "Is it from afghan era or not?" - they will tell you. Don't tell them that you need an old one. It is much easier to find a private advertisment of Panama. Like this www~.~avito~.ru/rossiya?q=%D0%BF%D0%~B0%D0%BD%~D0%B0%D0%B~C%D0%B0+%D0%B0%D1%84%D0%B3%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%BA%D0%B0 delete all ~.
By the way, the original costs around 100$, Lower price means fake.
