Is this an NZ dpm jacket? Empty Is this an NZ dpm jacket?

    Hi All

I recently acquired this totally unmarked smock. After seeing a somewhat similar item on ebay, I now wonder if it's NZ. It has a slightly stiff feel as if impregnated, a bit like a waxed jacket but I don't think it is waxed. The lining is greeny-grey cotton gaberdine. There are no marks on it anywhere, the press studs are plain and I can find no signs there has never been a label. The heavy brass zip is marked MIT. The zip backing is cotton not nylon. There is one inside pocket up high on the left and a poacher pocket in the back. The quality of materials used for jacket and liner is good, and the construction is very neat and professional.

I'd be grateful for any opinions on this. Here's the ebay link:

This is not a NZ jacket ... unless it's a NZ commercial jacket. Definitely not NZ issue tho' ... even the material is not the same colour. Could be one of those waxed Barbour jackets .. I know they did some in DPM ...

Thanks Filupe. It's definitely not a Barbour. If it's not NZ, I'll post a link in Can You Identify Me?

Ok the pictured jacket, I've never seen before, but the link you have is for a NZ jacket and isn't the same as posted pictures.

The eBay jacket was made by Tracey Manufacturers, which happened to be in the town where i grew up prior to joining the army.

The ebay jacket is the one that made me think mine might be NZ as there are some similar features, sorry if I didn't make that clear.

Ok, eBay jacket is a NZ Army issued jacket. We also had pants in the same material.

The mystery jacket is a mix of P-68/86 and US M-65. Looks to be very well made and it isn't the sort of thing I'd expect for the civilian market if this thing is 20+ years old (which I'm guessing it is). Could be a contract piece for an Asian or African nation.

Cheers Steve, I hadn't cottoned on to the M65 features but I see what you mean. A sample for an Asian or African contract that was never completed would make sense and explain the absence of labels, markings etc. I think you may have solved this one!

What about the crotch flap? That was a feature of the old Brit smocks of the 70-80s.

I to remember in the early 80's while doing my basic training at Whittington Barracks in the Midlands, one of the training corporals offering to sell me and other members of the platoon a wax cotton smock for 30 quid each I don’t remember who made them but if my memory serves they looked a bit like the one at the beginning of this tread.

    I'm going to guess it's a Korean-made contract piece.
