Recently found this Green Beret with 10SFG Europe flash and pin. I do not know anything about green berets except they are hard to find, even newer ones in Bragg! lol. Anyways a friend of mine says it appears to be pre 1970 because it doesnt have a lining and it has the grommets. He said he doesnt see many like that post war. Also he said the flash is a "cut edge flash" and they stopped using them by the late 70's. So what do you guys think?

it had a liner at one time. not unusual to see them removed. I have both. Not sure of the era on this one tho. Some flashes today are cut edge. I have several. they have a plastic backing tho, unlike earlier cut edge patches. the grommets are an older thing tho, but some private purchas ones dont have them. I'd have to check my Bancroft and see if it has them. I have a British green beret used by a US soldier also. I'll have to dig it out too.

Looks OK to me too. If not VN era then certainly not far from it. But why VN era? - the 10th SFG were Germany based ...

I just meant Veitnam era really, not actually in the war. They may have been based in Germany, but wouldnt they still deploy? I know current SF units have areas of responsibility but they all ended up in Iraq or Afghanistan...

No way to be sure of the date of mfg with the liner/mfgr tag gone.
10.Gp never had any Asian area responsibilities, however guys from Tölz went to RVN either as volunteers or were levied out.
