    Ukrainian Iraq War collection

Post by artur95 on Wed Mar 16, 2016 2:13 pm

    Hello everyone,

Some of you may recognize my username from other forums that I am on; US Militaria, OEF/OIF, and Ukrainian Military Impressions on Facebook, to name a few.

A number of different subjects interest me and one of the fields I collect is Ukrainian items from the Iraq War. If anyone has already seen photos of my collection on the other forums, I apologize in advance! I have only been able to add one additional piece during the past year.

    Thanks for looking,

    Artur

Unfortunately, I don't have much space to properly display me collection. But here are some items brought back by a National Guard member who worked alongside members of the 5th Ukrainian Mech Brigade in 2004 (near Al Kut).

Some close ups of the uniform. The stamps on the trousers have been washed away and very faintly you can see 2003 marked inside the jacket. All the boonies and clothing are first production , non ripstop, desert camo variants.

A close up of the stamp inside the boonie and also a beat up helmet cover. Notice the Arabic script.

Some smaller items include two undershirts, a holster, some Soviet webbing, pamphlets, carrying bags, and canteen.

My latest purchase, a 2002 dated cold weather jacket. A great member on the US Militaria forum traded a pair of boots for this jacket sometime in Spring of 2004.

An interesting feature is the holster pocket for a Makarov.

Fantastic items! I don't think I've ever seen that water bottle cover before. Is it the same desert Dubok type camouflage or is it different?

Yes Steve, the canteen cover is the same desert Dubok camouflage. I'm pretty sure it has no stamps but will check tomorrow.

Here are also some pamphlets that were found. The two small books are what I am guessing were the Soviet version of the soldier's handbook. Its interesting to note both books are from the 1980s. Everything pictured, except the cold weather jacket, were picked out of a garbage pile the Ukrainians left before returning home. The contingent brought a bunch of old uniforms/ gear. They did alot of trading, so I am told.

One army's trash is another man's treasure Wink

The variety of badging on the desert uniforms is fun.  No rhyme or reason from our perspective.  Heck, there's apparently no rhyme or reason even from the Ukrainian military's perspective!

Thanks for the mention of the helmet cover. I have an unissued one somewhere so I'm all set.
