Picked this one up recently.  Looks European made.

Ah, this one It is the same pattern as Yugo and Cuban lizard camo printings. We had a big discussion about this one a few years ago because a number of them showed up in Thailand. The cut is identical to Cuban, bit it isn't Cuban production. One theory is Yugoslavia, which was friendly to Cuba, produced a bunch. It could also be they were South Korean, though I don't think ROK would have allowed production to go to Cuba.

That's from memory. Maybe we did finally arrive at some definitive conclusion? In any case, I had about a half dozen of these and they were all used. I also landed a set of trousers to match.

I didn't see all the pictures when I first checked. OK, that's definitely not the same uniform as I was talking about. However, it could be related.


I tried to find the thread I was thinking of, but could not locate it. We had a fairly lengthy discussion about this type of uniform with comparison photos many years ago. From what I remember we concluded it was neither Cuban nor Yugoslav/Serb. My notes indicates that we felt it was most likely South Korean contract for Angola in the 1990s. It could be that the Dutch, and others made this uniform for Angola and then, as often happened, subsequent runs in the 1990s went to cheaper contractors in countries like South Korea.

Steve, your 3 pictures show Russian and Cuban soldiers, and they wear good Cuban pattern

That's the thread! Great work, Gilles Thanks for the clarification on the pictures. I will move them to my Cuba folder instead of Angola.

So, we still are not sure what the uniform without the labels is? Angloa seems to be a good guess because of the connection to Cuba, which the uniform is obviously patterned after.
