Here is the newest of my 2 Irish Defence Force DPM smocks it’s dated 2006 made by CARRA / SEYNTEX sized XL the tricolour patch on the left sleeve is the smaller type and it lacks the tabs in the back for fitting an insulated pad for sitting on cold surfaces, the smock is in mint condition.

The second one is dated 1999 and made by Seyntex sized L the tricolour patch on the left sleeve is of the larger type with Ireland title and it has the tabs for an insulated pad for sitting on cold surfaces there is a velcro backed name patch and a captains rank slide, the smock i in excellent used condition.

Did you add the DFI/OnH tabs yourself? The reason I ask is because the 1999 Ptn had no markings of any kind attached when issued. You added a Large tricolour and nametag if deploying on overseas duty. Nametags were only issued to troops deploying and were issued six to a sheet which you took to a tailor and he/she fixed them up and stitched them on for you.

Velcro backedstandardised nametags only went on issue from 2001 onwards and the small tricolour was added to the uniform. We switched to the large tricolour at home and abroad in 2007.The DFI tab was added in 2010 and the OnH tab circa 2012/13.

    Hi raptor
I got both of my smocks via a surplus dealer here in the UK both of the smocks are as I got them both with sewn on DFI patches and velcro flock for the name patch the 1999 dated smock with the large tricolour and IRELAND title and the captains rank slide (I have been told the rank is a trials item). And the 2006 one with the small tricolour. I would like to get hold of one of the Gaelic OnH titles but they are quite rare here.

Yeah. Thought as much. He probably added the badges himself before he flogged them to you mate. If you were going for period realism they are just.Off. Sorry.

I can hook you up with and OnH tab if you need one.PM me for more. santa

I can say that the dealer l got them from didn’t add to the smocks as I was there when they came in and I took both of them there and then, but I can’t vouch for previous owners Is it possible that a reservist  kept them and updated them. Btw the tabs and velcro has only sewn to the shell and not the nylon lining.

It's possible someone modded them before selling them on.I can 100% confirm though that '99 Ptn smocks had zero badges attached when issued and that the DFI/OnH tab wasn't around until 2010/12.

Just to step things up a notch also.Subdued Unit flashes are going to be issued soon to counteract the makey uppy ones the troops are purchasing(not IRR). One more thing to collect. Very Happy
