It is not my knowledge field but I came across this hat and thought it might be old and have some interesting story behind it. I think the beret is from the french army, but if someone could shed some light on this weird patch... the red color and the AK47 gun make me think of some socialist group or country from the 60's or 70's.

Thank you Idiot88. This is a great clue, a direction to go. The similarity with the Mozambique flag is evident. And if we take into account that it is, or was in the past, a country under the influence of the Soviet Union..
I have done an in-depth search through Google of pics of the troops of this country. However, among the berets of his soldiers, I have not seen any that resemble it. At least in the emblem.
