Can someone ID these Polish (I think) patches

Post by misanthropic_gods on Wed Jun 02, 2010 4:51 pm

I received these Polish (I think) patches in a grouping from a US soldier in Iraq, I am assuming he traded these with a Polish soldier. Can anyone ID these?

These are warsaw pact era patches, the tank with the wing is I believe armored cav. The lightning bolt and number is a technicians badge for signals I think. The Katowice is a patch for the militia/reservists in the city of katowice. At least this from the dim past as I recall. FYI, the Katowice patch in same configuration with different city names existed.

Thanks for the ID on some of those. I wonder how they ended up with a bunch of stuff that came back from Iraq....hmmm. I will probably never know. I figured the Katowice patch was a for a city reserves or somesuch..that was actually how I figured it was Polish.

    So:

A,C,D are patches introduced in 1986.
B it's a patch of air force specialist (i'm not now able to say whose exactly) 2nd class (there were 1st, 2nd, 3rd and master (M) classes) introduced in early 70's.

    A - armoured forces
    C - topographical service
D - Katowice territorial defence brigade (Katowicka Brygada Obrony Terytorialnej Kraju)

A lot of this stuff gets brought by former Combloc forces specifically for trading. I got a bunch of stuff from Hungarian engineers during my time in the Balkans. It seems that they bring former and current items to either make a few extras bucks or get equipment that they'll either use or resell.
