Seems to have had very little if any use but as it was a barn find has unfortunately suffered from water/moisture damage but still very very very happy!!!!!!

Having only ever seen Hawley liners in pics and never handled one am surprised how flimsy they actually were and surprised that ANY survived.

congrats on finding a nice fs,fb m1 gulf ive never seen close ups of that special liner before ,to be fair the shell and liner have stood the test of time well ,you are one lucky guy ,will you do a field repair of the missing rivit or just leave it be ,also whats the story behind the unissued m80 is it for use in singapore army ,nice cammo finish btw, ,well i was given a spare chinstrap for the one missing on my mk6 ,i wonder where this saw action as it has the woodland dpm cover but has remnants of a two tone scrim ,im thinking oif time period any body like to comment id be glad to hear your thoughts cheers tc helmets thread - THE HELMET THREAD - Page 40 013_zpse3897c67helmets thread - THE HELMET THREAD - Page 40 014_zps931b3a89

Temperate DPM was issued early Granby so could well have been there depending on the date of the helmet?

The Hawley liner had thought of getting the missing rivet replaced but the material is so fragile I dont dare do anything with it. its one of the things I honestly thought I would NEVER own given the prices these things go for so am as can be expected well chuffed.

The M80 type is I believe a Korean Export model, exported to who I have no idea!!

thanks for your thoughts gulf ,my only reasoning on it being oif lid is im not sure if scrim and sniper tape used gw1 ,i agree with you i think best just leave the liner be ,it is what it is ,still a very desirable liner and shell ,im wondering about the circled A on the crown ,oh and was the liner stuck fast to the shell ,the korean m80 has a very similar paint scheme to the early pasgt composites ,here's a ref picture from the late 70's you can see a similarity i believe ,for some reason i think singapore army dont ask me why cheers tc helmets thread - THE HELMET THREAD - Page 40 024_zps225aff82

The liner was stuck but not as bad as I thought as was concerned the cloth covering would all tear away by being stuck to the shell but phew, not too bad.

As for the A,hope it wasnt some young turd back in the 70s that scratched the Anarchy symbol on it(is it the same?).

Very impressive M1 gulf, semi-relic in places, but I would be very proud to has this one in my own collection, good purchase there, really like the M80 too, very rare to see un -issued woodland patterned examples.

Thunderchild, I reckon the Mk6 could well have been worn in Op Granby, but then eqaully the woodland covers were also worn in the early day's of Afghanistan pre-MTP.There's photographic evidence out there demonstrating the use of Temperate and Desert DPM combinations in use, for example I am aware the Royal Marines wore these combinations amongst other sqauddie units. I suppose the only way to get close to knowing would be the date in the shell, Mk6a's were issued 2010 ( I think) so pre 2010??? Great looking example all the same Mate.

thanks for your thoughts on the ,mk6 gary im thinking your right the only way to tell would be to undo the sniper tape and look at the date on the dpm cover ,but as i wont be doing that i guess i will never truly know ,im also guessing early afghan issue too the scrim remnants are unlike anything ive seen ,a definate two tone sand and tan shame there's not more of it visible above the tape though ,cheers TC

Hey no worries , I too would be very reluctant to remove the cover, having had another look at it again today I would hazard a guess at it being Afghan used, the troops in Op Granby did not to my knowledge use any scrim or netting?

Looking at reference pictures the taped edges and netting did not appear until 2001 onwards , but of course there's always the exceptions Wink

    No date on the cover.

Am now thinking later than Granby myself as the desert coloured elastic foliage bands are a later thing.

Only just noticed as well it has visor mounts.

Talking of Mk 6's Guy's and their usage, I was reading a FFL book earlier today, and it mentions and shows pictures of a Legionnaire wearing a Mk6 with perspex visor, probing for mines..now I never knew the FFL wore these Brit lids, did you?
