Post by NorBn Sun Mar 22, 2009 2:31 pm

Went through some boxes I have stored in my basement and finally found one I have been looking for a long time now. It’s filled with different equipment I have used and some of it I had forgotten all about. First there is the combat vest issued at the time, a couple of boonie hats and a couple of M94 desert boots:

Also a few t-shirts with different printed or embroidered insignia:

Next is a privately purchased chest rig and some winter equipment. The chest rig was not authorized, but used anyway. The wool caps and other items were great in cold weather:

Finally a couple of wool “NATO sweaters”, good and warm on cold days:

This is stuff I used in 1999, 2000 & 2001 and I'm not sure how much of it that is still in the system. I know the combat vest is used by the Home Guard, but another one have replaced this one in international operations. At least where the desert uniform is used.

There are only a few surplus stores around and I don’t really know where to find items like these. The older M75 field uniforms and the M98 camo uniforms are easy to find, but the websites I have found selling these uniforms are in Norwegian only. The khaki M94 desert uniform is also available, but these uniforms are getting rarer and rarer. The combat vests are difficult to find and usually expensive, but every now and then they are available on a Norwegian internet auction. Camo tanker suits are also available every now and then, but they are rare as well. If I find any of these at a reasonable price and I can see what I can do, but I really can’t promise anything.

They were issued when the Norwegian Infantry Battalion existed and the moose head is the same as the one on the shoulder insignia. The last time it was used was in the KFOR mission, so I don't think they are around anymore.

Our last battalion commander really liked moose and named all the streets in the camp something with moose. He put up the traditional Norwegian warning singn for "moose on the road" on the main gate and we even had moose for Sunday dinner. I guess he had something to do with the t-shirts as well.
