US SF Poplin 3rd Suit Advice Empty US SF Poplin 3rd Suit Advice

I got this a while a go for $60 from a guy who bought it from an estate sale. I've been told it's a fake by putting period badges on a genuine suit.
The one one thing that stands out to most is the white cotton name tag because it look too new. The jacket is new condition, the pants may have been worn a couple of times but they are a lighter shade so look more worn against the newer jacket.

I would just like a few opinions about this set, for me even if it was made up item it's still a good deal for a large poplin set.

It does look awefully new. Then again a lot of guys wore uniforms like this to the cat houses to look pretty. Not in actual combat. Is the SF patch cut or merrowed, I can't tell from the pic, I am being retarded lately.

The SF badge has rough edges like it's been cut out after finished. I'm sorry Insignia just isn't my thing.

As you asked for opinions, I will offer mine. The jacket definitely looks pieced-together, although whomever did this apparently knows quite a bit about small details like the type of thread often used by Vietnamese & other Asian sew-shops. What strikes me as most indicative of a pieced-together uniform is the mixture of brand new and used insignia. The CIB, parachute wings & chevrons seem to have some light fading and wear to them, whereas the name tag and SSI look brand new. I am also a little skeptical that your SSI & Airborne tab are even originals, as I have seen reproductions with those colored backings. Early originals used khaki cloth as the base for the embroidery, although I have seen some originals using the same color cloth as the base of the embroidery (i.e. black or teal). The only way to tell for sure would be to remove the patch and look at the back.

On the plus side, at least everything has been placed properly.

    Regards,

    Eric

Hi, the CIB and Jump wings are new too. It's a combination of how i took the photo and i gave the jacket a light iron. I did that as it arrived screwed up in some sort of folding effort. The only used thing is the rank badges from what i can see. You would have thought the rank badges would have been new too as they not too hard to find and are cheap.
It does look however that most if not all the badges were removed of something else. I can make out sewing holes on the SF badge, jump wings and Army tag.
I have been told however that all badges are Vietnam period ones, it's just newness that is giving doubts.

Like i said, for the $60 i paid you couldn't even buy the poplin jungle pants.

I am a camo collector really and i go on labels and prints, when it comes to badges then pfff.... pass Laughing

I love this jacket for the simple reason, it looks good. I love the color patches on OD. My question is: Wasn't the use of colored insignia on field uniforms discontinued by the time this jacket was issued?

Although I agree its probably a put together , It could be just a well maintained jacket in original condition , I have a Air Force jungle jacket from Vietnam that was MINT with inspectors tag still in the pocket, and in country tapes , some of these guys had extra sets , and just never used them , got home and put them in a foot locker or closet and forgot about them , so its possible to show very little aging , on the other hand, its probably a put together .

To my mind this reason is the biggest indicator that it is a put-together job. Perhaps you could flip this one over to USMF for some definitive opinions.

That’s a nice Air Force jacket. I have one similar but the sleeves are shortened. It’s quite faded but otherwise in great shape.

The jacket is definately a put togather. Why? Because it isn't done right!
Not only is the all color insignia wrong for that late a jungle jacket, but the insignia isn't sewn on right - and that would never have happened if done in country. Sleve stripes, either color or subdued went out in 68/69. ALL rank was worn on the colar.
I got in country in Aug 69 and there was no color insignia being worn except for a few with color LLDB pocket patches, however almost all of those were subdued. When I went to the Mike Force - see my avatar - there was nothing available but full color so that's what we wore.

The jacket may be right date of mfgr for the color insignia, but said insignia is sewn on in part with 1969 placement - Army & name. The CIB & jump wings are placed in state side location, NOT that used in RVN!
Thus someone has doctored up an early jungle jacket to make it sell for extra $$.

Set is a complete put together.
BUT FOR USE IN OUR REENACTING UNIT.
Green was part of our SF team who let his storage get behind .
All his stuff including this uniform and his tigers showed up at the Rose Bowl flea market over a year ago.
The uniform is from Moore militaria .
Nick K made all the name patches for the unit and they are all the same as this .

I thought it was his first model set as everyone had 1st ,poplin , and rip stops sets .
His tigers were badged and the buttons changed , they were sold as real and fooled a very advanced collector.
Green is now in California National guard .
