Do the Engineer and Logistics units which support Aussie SF units wear the SAS or Commando Beret?

Do any units still wear the maroon beret now hat 3 RAR is no longer airborne

The RAR which has taken on the amphibious role (does hit have support units?) do they have any special insignia or identifying makings?

The supporting units do no wear cdo/sasr berets unless the have completed the full reinforcement training and selection. rare but does happen.
As far as I'm aware 3rar no longer have or issue the maroon beret and jump wings. only guys who earned them before. and I think up in Townsville they have to wear slouch hats not berets.
And for the amphib role no nothing has or will be issued. as the role will be rotated through different battalions. the only thing diff is that they "should" get sea going allowance

Thanks for the info. I saw a beret for one of the reserve infantry regiments, and it was a light'ish blue colour, darker than the Army Air Corps but lighter than the midnight blue worn as general service. I know that there is a partial ban on berets at the moment but what beret colours and shades are on issue to the Army Reserve?

The ban was lifted a few years ago on berets. I hated the slouch hat as a headress of the day. The different berets in reserves are totally different to regular. As it goes back into the history of each unit. I think that is the royal new south walse regiment beret but im.not 100%

Many thanks. I've met a few Aussies when I was serving and always enjoyed the experience, the slouch hat by the way looks very, very cool

Yes i agree. But in use its a pain in the arse. Blows of in wind, cant put it down on the gtound has to be hung up. Not practical. Great for ceremonial when its side is up. Berets are heaps easier

Australian Special forces berets Empty Australian berets

The staff of the Parachute Training School at Nowra will still be wearing maroon  ("dull cherry") berets, despite the re-roling of 3RAR. These will include Instructors, riggers from the RAAOC and air dispatchers from the RAACT. When I was last there I saw instructors wearing from the SAS and Cdos wearing their parent unit badges on their maroon berets - strange sights indeed! Even the typists were issued maroon lids.
