Bought a very cheap Y-strap at a surplus shop, no idea what it is, anyone here does know?

    No markings anywhere.

No idea! They look very similar to WW2 German in some ways, not at all in others. The lack of backpack straps and that buckle for the rear adjustment definitely are interesting features.

It looks quite old, that's for sure.

    Perhaps it is police related?

That's one thought I had too, but I don't think it's BRD.   I had been thinking it was DDR, but as far as I know the leather type had backpack straps and double (small) D-rings on the shoulders.  That said, in other respects the mystery one does seem consistent with DDR.  Check out these modified straps available on eBay right now for comparison:

Yeah a pretty weird one to say the least. The front hooks are the WW2 type but slightly different in the part that attaches to the leather, the rear adjustment buckle is more round than my own DDR strap or others I've seen, the rear hook doesn't have the central reinforcement groove but it's flat bent steel, the D-rings seem closer together than what I'm used to seeing, and then the total abscence of there ever being any backpack straps attached to the front...
