Re: Modern Ukrainian uniform in photographs
These uniforms were never easy to get, as far as I can tell. I have a winter interior ministry and the border guard summer uniforms. I agree, the patterns are not very good. Still, they are fun uniforms to collect
What are border guards wearing now? Standard armed forces digital camo? I have some pictures of border guards wearing that uniform.

Re: Modern Ukrainian uniform in photographs
Steve, thank you for the answer.
I can tell what I've seen perosnally.
In the years 2017-2018 i crossed the border of Ukraine 6 times, in the airports.
The Border Guard personnel was wearing green uniform or MM-14 camouflage.
And nothing else.

Re: Modern Ukrainian uniform in photographs
What about the National Guards...
They use to provide security during the most important events and holidays, also they stand on guard near the Consulates of different countries, located in Odessa.
They can be seen on the streets.
They use only olive green or blue iniform with the appropriate patches.
The olive green uniform fabrics seems more or less similar to the ones used by Austrian Bundesheer.
Once I asked several National Guardsmen about their "customer opinion" about that fabrics.
In other words, whether this unifor is comfortable in different weather conditions.
And they all had the same opinion that olive green uniform is too hot in summer, and has not sufficient ventillation.
So, in my opinion, Austrian uniform fabrics is better in quality.

Re: Modern Ukrainian uniform in photographs
The National Guard of Ukraine was re-established in March 2014. It was positioned as a kind of, completely new military formation, although it was created on the basis of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, who took an active part in the confrontation on the Maidan in Kiev in the winter of 2013-2014.
The current National Guard commander, Yuri Allerov, in one of his interviews recalled that in Lviv, where he served, after Maidan, representatives of the internal troops were perceived as enemies because of their black uniform. “It was not safe for the representatives of the Internal Troops to go on the streets of western Uktraine. The black form caused the people's angry for the events on the Maidan. All those who were in it were the enemies of the people, ”recalled Allerov.
The problem was solved by dressing in military camouflage. In some ways, this little sketch about disguise from Allerov's memories characterizes the creation of the National Guard and the period of the first months of its existence. Internal troops received a new form, the name and partially replenished their ranks with volunteers. Politically, this allowed us to talk about the "liquidation" of the internal troops and at the same time keep them in a different form, because the need for them did not disappear, but on the contrary, it increased significantly with the onset of hostilities.

Re: Modern Ukrainian uniform in photographs
Practically, the law “On the National Guard of Ukraine”, adopted in March 2014, became the starting point for reforming the former internal troops of Ukraine for new tasks that arose as a result of the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict. When it was necessary to fight not with street crime and not even with organized, but with well-armed enemy detachments and sabotage groups. In the course of solving this task, the traditional problems of the Ukrainian law enforcement agencies and the army in the form of underfunding, often the lack of normal living conditions for people serving, and problems with the organization of good nutrition were also resolved.
It cannot be said that these were global, structural reforms, or some kind of fundamentally new approach - obvious problems were solved that had not been “reaching out” for decades. The budget of the department has been increased. If before the outbreak of hostilities - in 2013, the budget of the internal troops was in the region of 2 billion hryvnias, then in the state budget for 2017 we are talking about an amount of about 10 billion hryvnias. Even taking into account the high inflation in recent years and the devaluation of the hryvnia, there has been a significant increase in funding.
As a result of the strengthening of the former internal troops, the need arose to purchase new equipment, which was not previously available. As a result, the National Guard appeared a lot of new military equipment, even heavy weapons.

Re: Modern Ukrainian uniform in photographs
The problem with the qualitiy and functionality, ventillation of the uniform fabrics was something I recognized on my MM-14 parkas. As a new one they are stiff as hell and after one wash they looked like they had a shiny glance and it felt like they have been made out of recycled plastic bottles. And you sweat like a pig while wearing it, even if its not warm. And about austrian fabrics quality... We didn't manage it to produce the uniforms in one similar looking solid OD color over the past 30 years.

Re: Modern Ukrainian uniform in photographs
What I have to say to all my fellow collectioners, the early MM-14 uniform was often made of bad plastic fabrics.
This fabrics was called "Art. 2701".
Now the fabrics is much better, because after many scandals the military stopped ordering Art. 2701.
After ignition, this fabric began to burn, melt and drip with molten plastic.
So, please take this into account and never purchase anything with Aрт. 2701

Re: Modern Ukrainian uniform in photographs
Well, back to National Guard...
The leadership of the National Guard under active informational advancement of their offspring - the rapid reaction brigade, which, as stated, is built according to NATO standards. But as far as it turns out and the claimed is true, it is difficult to judge. Political tasks were almost completely fulfilled. Unless, the territorial defense defense battalions and volunteer battalions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs became the main channel for controlling the voluntary movement, and not the National Guard within whose structure they also exist. Now the National Guard of Ukraine is all the same internal troops only significantly reinforced, including heavy weapons.
Recognizing the merits of the National Guard under units in repelling external aggression, it should be noted that they did not become a truly new structure, based on principles of civic participation that are absolutely new to Ukraine. At the time of formation of the National Guard, the society had a request for a fundamentally new relationship with the state apparatus in matters of national defense and public order protection. Three years after the start of reforms, Ukraine has a reinforced police force - in fact, it has renewed and more effective internal troops, but there is still no direct link between this structure and society. The state again chose a more convenient format for centralization.
The idea that a citizen, in his free time from primary work and occupation, can be involved in the protection of public order and the work of the police within the framework of the official structure was not reflected in the construction of the National Guard of Ukraine - the idea of territorial defense like Switzerland, Lithuania or the United States of America. As a result, such tasks are attempted by spontaneously organized groups of activists, which often ends in conflicts due to the uncertainty of their official status.

Re: Modern Ukrainian uniform in photographs
Compared with 2014, there have been significant changes in terms of the supply and combat capabilities of the National Guard. At the disposal of new types of weapons, significantly increased the level of training of personnel. The National Guard has become a formation capable of conducting real hostilities, and not just engage in the protection of public order.
At the same time, within the National Guard there is an informal division of conditionally into "volunteers" and "internal troops" (now there are several volunteer formations in the structure of the National Guard, including the Azov regiment and the Kulchitsky battalion). On units that participate in hostilities and on those who are engaged in the protection of public order. According to Pavel, it would be better if the ba of the National Guard is to solve tasks related to the hostilities.
One of the National Guard soldiers, Pavel, who was part of the first battalion formed in the spring of 2014, agreed to share his impressions of the changes that took place in the National Guard
(http://novosti.dn.ua/article/6650-3-goda-reform-nacgvardyy-mezhdu-dobrovolcamy-y-vnutrennymy-voyskamy-)
“Internal troops changed form, but all command and authority remained the same. There is the National Guard under, which protects prisoners, keeps order at rallies, is engaged in the protection of objects in Ukraine, there is one that participates in hostilities, but everyone has the same form, olive. It would be better to build a purely military formation according to the regulations of the army. Separate functions. Although in recent years the changes are large, we are striving for NATO standards, artillery has appeared. They say that the National Guard on the first line is no longer worth it, but this is not quite true, there are some units there and we have some other functions. We are preparing for the de-occupation of the Donbass. When the army reaches the borders, we will enter the cities, and this is a specific work, counter-sabotage and so on. Of course, I would like more volunteer battalions to develop this component. ”
