Odd find... BGS MP38/40 mag pouches

I purchased this pair many years ago. The odd thing is that BGS never used MP38/40, rather they used Beretta SMGs in the early days and then MP5. My guess is the BGS planned on using the MP40 alongside other German WW2 weapons (Kar98k, P-38, and MG42) but perhaps thought it looked too "Nazi" and backed off.

Does anybody know anything about these?

Thanks! They're in pretty good shape, but the leather is pretty dried out and on one pouch two of the holes are broken on one side. Here's some more pictures:
