When did Israel begin using nylon pouches?

Howdy Eugene,
Israel pioneered (in the West, anyways) the first one-piece, wraparound load-bearing vest, called simply "efod krav" (battle vest) in the late 1970s. It was tested in battle in the 1982 "Peace for Galilee" campaign in which the IDF had no choice but to go into Southern Lebanon to root out the PLO terrorists. There are a TON of photos of soldiers wearing the first generation of these vests; you'll also see a lot of soldiers (mainly reservists) still wearing the old-school suspenders/belt/removable pouches LBE as well.
