Supposedly this set was worn by a French soldier (no idea what unit) while on tour in the former Yugoslavia. While highly skeptical of this claim upon purchase, I got it for a price that I wouldn't have been upset to pay if it had turned out to be from a Francophone nation in Africa. While this still seems like it might be the case, there are several features which might actually indicate a kernel of truth to the original assertion. The uniform is obviously made in France; even though the label is a little too worn to read, all the hardware is the same as would be on the late-model TAP 47/56 and F2 fatigues. Moreover, the pattern itself reminds me of the French-made Goretex jacket I posted a little while ago. There is also the ghost of a rank badge where is typical French practice, though I can find no other evidence of unit patches or insignia. It has obviously been tailored down to a trim size (more like an 88M compared to the 106 of the label). And while the trousers conform to the typical layout of the TAP 47/56, the jacket/shirt has a single button closure for either of the two outer breast pockets. Lastly, it is interesting in light of the recent discussion on Spanish uniforms, that the front closure has been made to be a single, long, wide strip of hook and loop, which is not an untypical feature of Spanish uniforms from the late 1960's up until the standardization of the M82 uniform.
In any case, I like the look of it! What do you guys think?
