Surplus shops in Oklahoma City? Empty Surplus shops in Oklahoma City?

Post by CollectinSteve Mon Oct 19, 2009 12:42 am

Does anybody have anything to say about the shops in OKC? I'm going there in a couple of weeks and of course want to check out the local non-base shops.

I'm also hoping to get into the PX at Ft. Sill, but that depends on if my escorts can squeak me in. Not sure what the current policy is regarding civilians going into a PX. If I can't get in I'm going to hand a shopping list to someone so my luggage won't be so light on the flight home Wink

    Thanks for any info!

I know a few places out there that are pretty good, surprisingly they have better thrift shops than surplus stores! I will dig up some info for you.

Uptown Thrift is pretty good for surplus, most if it is modern though. They have alot of USAF DCU's and BDU's because of Tinker, and a good number of Army BDU's because of Ft. Sill. I pickep up a 68 dated K2B, a 86 Dated 6 color Desert shirt, a mint set of M 1951 Cold weather pants and a 70 dated OD107 shirt with nametapes and a 1st cav patch

Im not so sure about surplus stores because I havent been to any around there. Maybe check in the phone book?

Thanks!! Yeah, I found all of the surplus shops in the local area already. But this thrift shop I never even would have thought to look for. When I get back I'll make a report in full.

I missed the best potential store in OKC because it was closed both Sunday and Monday, the only two days I had to shop. Dang. I drove out to Tulsa to one store which was said to be good but expensive. That was indeed the case. I grabbed some decent stuff there, including a very good condition and badged 1st Model ABU. Not cheap, but not terrible either. The $60 the guy wanted for unissued 2nd Model ABU jackets made me gag Smile

I made it to Uptown Thrift (thanks misanthropic_gods!) and found some decent stuff for good prices. Not much to choose from, however I did get a set of unissued M-1951 wool trousers, very good used Woodland M-65, very good condition ACU trousers, and 1986 dated 6 Color Desert jacket (barely used). I think the total for that haul came out to be $30. Cost me $20 to check it in as luggage, but that's the wonderful reality of airlines these days.

I'm looking for some ABUs for a good price. I know a guy in AZ who's in the USAF and stationed there, but I'm not sure how readily or easily he could snag a set for me.. any leads, anyone? Other than BDU.com or USCav/Ranger Joe's etc...

Obviously the catalogs have the "close to issue" type uniforms made by the same contractors as the real deal, but made in places like Honduras. There are also the junk stuff made in China that really have little to do with the genuine issue. So if you want the real thing you're going to have to look on eBay or have a contact who can snag some from a direct source.

IIRC the brand new purchase price for members of the Air Force is somewhere around $75 without badging. Which is why I just about fell over when I saw the shop wanting $60 for just the jacket!

Google's listing had 6 reviews, most of which complained about the pricing. The guy had a sweet 2 piece desert Army Air Crew uniform there, but he wanted $75 without any badging. That was a bit high for my tastes. He also is "smart" in that he priced stuff higher if they had badges on them. That's something most surplus dealers (thankfully!) don't pay attention to.

Oh, and he had a bunch of 3 Color Desert para helmet covers, most in crappy condition. I got a really good one and the price was fair. IIRC it was $10.

Ha ha..wow..in July I picked up an identical set of minty M-1951 Cold weather trousers and a very nice 6-color desert shirt made in 1986. Sounds like they must have a whole bunch of both of those in back! i also managed to snag a 1968 dated K2B Very Lightweight flight suit.

im glad I could help you out man

Wow...like-new helmet covers are $3 at my local surplus shop. Oh well...different locations, different prices, I guess.
