OK...I have got a question....I bought this parka several years ago...and it is supposed to be Austrian desert...however I have NEVER seen any photos of anyone wearing this pattern. Does ANYONE have ANY clue about this? I also have a boonie in the pattern.

Re: AUSTRIAN PATTERN???????
neither of those are Issue pieces , they were made from Zeltbahns , I would bet a bundle you look at the other side of the fabric and it will be covered with those nice little dots .
The only issue piece with that pattern is the zelbahn , dot on one side , that pattern (mountain) on the other.

YES...Philip...I was not aware of that at all...and the photos are GREAT!! I am going to put a new topic together showing all of the countries(or as many as I can) who have used the 3 colour pattern...so I will copy your top 2 photos to put with the topic..it will be in the Gulf War II section.

Re: AUSTRIAN PATTERN???????
that would be great especially the tag...so it is actual US issued stuff...I know some countries were apparently making their own using surplus material...if I remember correctly or something to the effect

Re: AUSTRIAN PATTERN???????
From what I understand the 3 color DCUs are of US origin, but retrofitted with epaulettes by an Austrian company. When my friend in Wein gets around to sending me the one he bought for me I'll be able to tell for sure Philip, do you know for sure?
BTW, I saw the monotone sand colored uniform Austrian forces used before DCU on eBay a few weeks ago. It went for quite a bit of money due to its rarity, certainly not because of its sexy look

Re: AUSTRIAN PATTERN???????
yes, dcus are of us origin with added epaulettes. the plain sand colored uniform is current issue. we dont use the us 3 color desert anymore.
but maybe we'll have a new camo pattern for woodland and desert regions for our missions abroad soon. maybe....

Re: AUSTRIAN PATTERN???????
I know I'm resurrecting an old thread here - but that smock in the first photos was probably made by a US company called Grey Wolf Trading. They don't seem to be actually "trading" any more, but the guy does pop up on eBay occassionally. They made a bunch of non-standard, non-issue, reversible items from cut up surplus Austrian Zeltbahnen. The non-dot pattern side of the Zeltbahn was actually a sort of "rocks" pattern - designed for use in the high Alpine regions - not "desert". Grey Wolf marketed it as a desert pattern, and apparently some people were fooled.
If I recall correctly, they made SAS-type smocks, boonie hats, helmet covers, berets and French colonial para style caps from the Zeltbahn material - all of which were reversible.
Nice - but totally un-authentic.

Re: AUSTRIAN PATTERN???????
Ah! Grey Wolf Trading... makers of hats and stuff out of Zelts. Yeah, I've seen them selling all kinds of things such as boonies, M43 caps, etc. made from old Zelts. The workmanship is pretty good, but it would be nice if they were more up-front about the stuff being homemade.
