Just got this off the vets son for $45.00 I have been talking to him for a while and figured out his dad was a marine as I got pictures of the ammo belts that are stamped USMC I am still waiting on more pictures so I can buy more from him but as for now this is what I got from him so far. Let me know what you think. He also told me he thinks his dad donated his uniforms to the musuem a long time ago =( But he his going to his mom's house this weekend to look for more stuff and will let me know what he finds. Also he said the liner is dated 1966 and looks like a fixed bale from the pictures but I cant really tell.

Re: ARVN Vietnam Helmet
is it a WWII era fixed bale or a swivel bale? does the shell have the original cork texture or has it been repainted?

Re: ARVN Vietnam Helmet
this Marine in Vietnam looks like he has a similiar camoflage helmet cover as yours, he also has a piece of tire inner tube made into a helmet band with some playing cards for decoration.

I think it is a piece of camo para material the stitching does look familiar, the black & white photo makes it appear like a regular cotton cover

Re: ARVN Vietnam Helmet
the picture is an airborne guy from vietnam but the cover looks more like a usmc cover or one of the million camo covers that were around in vietnam its hard to tell due to its a black and white photo

he has a USMC M55 armor vest, so he must be a Marine, they used para liners too, even though they could be regular grunts.

Re: ARVN Vietnam Helmet
yea that is what it looks like and also you can see the black rubber holder on the helmet that most marines used during nam and also yes I see the vest so he has to be a Marine
