I was told this uniform is of the Type 87 designation. I do know it was produced in 2008 at one of the PLA-contracted textile firms in China. The stamps are very unclear and barely readable, so I have not posted them.

Re: PLA Marines Blue Camouflage
It's so-so... not the best I've ever seen, but certainly not the worst.
I tried it on just to see what it felt like... it was lightweight but didn't seem like it'd breathe incredibly well. To be honest, the material looks and feels like the same as a set of bedsheets (except these are camo)
The buttons are sewn on fairly well, but the buttons themselves don't seem of the greatest quality. The snaps on the jacket are alright, they don't get stuck shut or refuse to close when pressed. There's some sloppy extra thread at the ends of seams, but I trimmed those with scissors. The zippers aren't too bad, they didn't get stuck when I checked them.
Overall it's not too bad... definitely better than some other uniforms I've seen.
I don't know if it's something I'd personally want to wear in rough & tumble situations, as it doesn't seem incredibly rugged, but for all I know it could also be tougher than it looks. I've seen photos of Chinese Marines in war-games wearing them, and they were dirty and gritty, but appeared to be holding up. My guess is that they must hold up fairly well if they're still using them...
But then again, when you're talking about a military the size of China's, my guess is that it's quantity over quality; as long as everyone who's supposed to be issued a set has one, not much else matters.

Re: PLA Marines Blue Camouflage
I have been after the set of blue digital EVERY TIME that seller offers it (if we're thinking of the same guy) but the bidding just goes crazy-high, and even when it does stay within reasonable bounds, someone's come through at literally the last second and jacked the price WAY high.

Maybe they are so thin so that they do not get bogged down with water and mud?

Clayton, I hadn't even considered that; a very valid point! Thanks for looking.

Re: PLA Marines Blue Camouflage
More than likely its poor quality material. Clayton you bring up a good theory. May be true except I have a few PLA uniforms and of the three sets two are poor quality material (urban paratrooper and Special forces tigerstripe). It could also be commercial. Regardless the Chinese have some really good looking patterns.

Re: PLA Marines Blue Camouflage
I did not know there were other variants of this pattern. These are very informative. Thank you for posting these, Gilles!
