Post by nkomo Mon Jul 26, 2010 5:41 pm

I call upon the expertise of this great forum to help me identify what country this jacket comes from. I'm at a loss. No markings anywhere on the jacket. This particular jacket has been in my collection isnce 1999 or 2000. Any thoughts????

The circled row of buttons serves no purpose.

Forgot to mention that the fabric is very lightweight.

I don't know why but I just have a feeling that it may be some kind of French jacket. The second set of buttons are probably for looks. I have never seen anything like it though.

I had thought that. The cut of the jacket reminds me of the Soviet era pilots jackets or officers shirts. However, this one has no internal pistol holster.

    My suspicions are either:

a.) A men's fashion item merely done in camouflage material, or

b.) A custom made garment for an individual military client for 'party' purposes.

The cut looks like the sort of thing one might expect to see in leather. The two main giveaways to my theory are the extra set of buttons and the buttons themselves, which look more 'fashion' than military.

Interesting theory. It could be commercial, but we rarely see garments like this in the US with shoulder straps. Also, there has never been tags sewn onto this jacket that I can tell. Also, the inside is well made and not what you'd expect to see coming out of the local Wal-Mart. However.....it could be commercial.

If anything...I'd lean towards the custom made garment. It is a high quality item and it looks to have been tailored. However....God only knows.

Question....since I bought this when everything was going big in Serbia/Bosnia/Albania, could this be from one of those conflicts? Maybe for an officer?

It could be Croatian woodland pattern , and it is very common in the former Yugoslavia for people to make personal clothing from extra stocks of camo fabric , the old Tree Branch pattern has been made into all sorts of things , I have even read curtains and guitar bags , I have a kids book bag for school , so it could just be something Mom whipped up on the sewing maching for Dad or Junior , or it could be a personal tailored piece for a soldier , but with the fake double breast buttons , I am leaning at a fashion piece .

BTW epulattes (sp) are very fashionable these days .

I plan on listing this jacket and a nice British 1959 Denison Smock (faded white tag on the inside) on Ebay tomorrow. Hopefully they will both do well.
