"Reversed DPM" Para Smock
My newest camo acquisition...1977 dated jump smock in unissued condition and a nice large size. Been looking for one for years so I can finally scratch it off my list of wants. Just have to get it all patched up and it'll be done and ready for display.

Re: "Reversed DPM" Para Smock
I found a 1984 dated of these for $10 at a Night market here...it is great. I love it. Mine is in very good condition, but had the diaper cut out.

Re: "Reversed DPM" Para Smock
10 bucks! I've seen these in surplus stores up here for around $200. You got one heck of a deal.
I did not pay that much for mine but I had to trade almost $150 worth of stuff to get it.

Re: "Reversed DPM" Para Smock
The prices of these things have gone up and down, down and up. A few years ago I bought several brand new examples for something like $50 or $60. I think a warehouse opened up or something. But lately, people seem to be willing to donate blood to get the money to pay for one of these.

Oh yeah, a night market in rural Illinois, and I just happened to glance over to see this hanging off of the back door of a van as the dealer was packing his table up. He asked $15 and in said "$10?" and he agreed. I was very excited, but I guess I got a better deal than I could have imagined!

Re: "Reversed DPM" Para Smock
I've got a Large Long CAR Smock, made by Peerless Garments but has the later added Brigade Quartermasters label inside. I assume there were several hundred overruns or rejects that were bought up by BQM, then sold down here for $95 during the 80s.

Re: "Reversed DPM" Para Smock
Here was my first CAR Smock, purchased for $80CD from Hero Army Surplus:

I sold it after I found a lesser condition CAR Smock in Large Long.

Re: "Reversed DPM" Para Smock
They in fact made two CAR Jump Smocks Peerless, Ambridge & Thompson I have both Vacuumed Pack.
Be careful with the Thompson the Snaps are tight and will rip of the Material, happened to Moi.
If you need Snap buttons contact the CAR Kite Shop, aka Jump Master Joe. I prefer the Peerless
the snap buttons connect much smoother.
In CAR your Issued two Jumpsmocks, the one for Combat or exercises the OSONS patch isn't Worn.
Only the Garrison Smock is the OSONS patch worn.
Now the Thompson Smock posted with the white wings, are fake. Now distances of Patches from the Epaulets to
the Canadian Flag is 1/2" from Flag to OSONS Patch 1/2" and from OSONS Patch to rank 1/2".
The wings are 1/2" above the Inner Pocket Stitching.
Never seen The CANADA patch on Smocks just the Flag.

Sorry went to edit due to mistake and I couldn't fined the edit button it disappeared,
the Airborne wing must be centered to the left side pocket and sewn on next to
the stitching of the inner pocket, the name tag is sewn on the right the same way
as the wings, just like in the picture showing the fake wings .

Re: "Reversed DPM" Para Smock
A lot of the Thompson Ambridge smocks were dumped onto the market without ever being issued and later "magically" acquired many, often incorrect badges and patches.
The smock posted by Falldownjaeger has the colours of a Thompson & Ambridge type, but has a Peerles maker's label which is lacking a lot of details. I'm posting my Peerless smock and tag for reference:

Your correct however many Peerless started showing up also when CAR was disbanded in 95.
They also make fakes with the Peerless tag on them. However on your P-Smock those wings are real.
For all those that are interested I have the CAR RSO for 1976 when major changes took place.
The OSONS patch only appeared or authorized in 1977, there for it would be interesting to
see the changes if someone has a Copy of CAR RSO for 78-79?

That's a great link!
Danilo, I'd be curious to see the maker's label on your example.

I have a Peerless smock less one snap button on a breast pocket - most annoying. I have googled 'CAR Kite Shop' and 'Jumpmaster Joe Canada' to no avail. Could you kindly provide contact details? Thanks in advance!

No Problem, I was advised by them Years ago If I needed New snaps they had the contact info, altitude@joedrouin.com, Most likely It will be Madame Marlene that will reply. The CAR Kite Shop, Canadian Airborne Forces Association Kit shop. http://www.joedrouin.com/cat.php?l=en&nbCatID=16.

A larger smock with original patches is very hard to find, most of what circulates the surplus stores are the commercial replicas and Thomson jackets which were surplused in the early 90s.

I remember on Ebay last year just the Large/Regular Peerless used with just two OSONS and Canadian flags two snap buttons missing $160.00us.
I'll have to dig through some Boxes and take pictures of both of my J-Smock's with all the Tags.

Re: "Reversed DPM" Para Smock
I have been told that the Ambridge & Thompson smocks are not real, anyone have any thoughts on this, something to do with Tanzania.
