Red Dawn/Rambo III Russian Movie Camo Suit

Camo made for the movie "Red Dawn" and used in "Rambo III", some of these suits were also sold to the public .

I am pretty sure mine was never used for film , they sold a ton of these to the public , I think they are cool too !

I bought it for the "cool" factor aswell. Mine has C.O.R.P. label, if I recall.

they were a great source for surplus, now gone.

I have a set too with a faked (movie prop?) special forces badge on the right arm. Like the rest of you said, several big catalogs sold this stuff by the ton for a very short period of time. Most of it must have been made explicitly for the commercial market. It's one of my favorite non-military camo patterns of all time.

My friend's dad got one of these when he was stationed in Turkey from a surplus dealer who sold items that Soviets sold to his shop. His is exactly like this, exact it's a jumpsuit instead of a two-piece like this one.

I always thought they looked cool, though. Great find.

Any chance of a pic? I always thought the camo was printed exclusively for the 'Red Dawn' movie and based on the 'KLMK' Soviet camouflage pattern. It is a rather effective and aesthetic pattern, perhaps the only one I have knowingly purchased as commercial.

The Zipper on mine is a YKK ,also there are 2 different distinct patterns , I have what is called the later , and I think mine was one of the ones sold to the public , I do not believe mine was used for filming .

I'll try to snag a photo next time I'm there. I'm pretty sure he said he purchased it in Turkey, where he also got the KLMK jumpsuit. I'll try to get a photo of them.

I too have a set of the Red Dawn coveralls from Roan Gouws. One of my friends here also found me the 2 piece set. Man I wish that I could get some of the fabric and have a boonie hat made out of it. I did pick up an original Russian para beret when I was in Russia after the wall fell. Good trading was done with several new friends over there. My greatgrandfather was from the Ukraine. Sadly my grandparents did not teach us Russian or Polish.

Correction: The set in my friend's collection is commercial. The other set he bought with it was the legit Soviet-issue KLMK jumpsuit. Sorry for the confusion.

Yup, this was for Red Dawn only. US Cavalry used to sell them, IIRC. Since there couldn't possibly have been that many made for the movie it is pretty certain that the bulk of the ones out there were made to use up spare cloth. I think the one I have was used in the movie as it came to me used and with the faked SF badge sewn onto it. I think the ones US Cav sold came without the badge, but I could be mistaken there.

There is also a M43 style cap as well.

Ah! Different patterns! That is unexpected. So someone smelled money and made their own. I wonder if that's what was for sale through places like US Cav?

I have been doing a little searching on this subject for fun , it seems from posts others have put up on the world wide web , the ones like this with this Tag were made for the Movie , this does not mean they were screen used , but they were produced for the production , not after , This could be wrong , but its the best info I have found so far , also the pattern of this set matches up with the movie suits ,I will update this thread if I find anymore info or what I have posted proves false .

on a side note , the later produced uniforms may have been made for Rambo III and not specifically for the commercial market as these suits were used in both movies , so the other tag you guys are talking about may have been for Rambo, not to mention Red Dawn left overs could have been used in Rambo as well .

what I am bummed about is sometimes the wardrobe shops put their tags in their stuff , but it does not seem the case with these uniforms.

I keep trying to find a snow suit Owen , but have not seen any for sale

I know where this is one but NFS .
Its cut big enough for both of us to get into !!!!
With a white plastic YKK zip .
The director of the movie gave it to a friend of mine .
When I was doing the uniforms for the NEW Call of Duty Black OPPs I used it for one of the characters !!!!
