Re: Crye woodland cammies
This is just weird.Just because the SEALs came out with their Crye AOR`s ...the Marines went back to woodland?Really weird when they have gone into MARPAT a very long time ago.

Re: Crye woodland cammies
A large part of the MARSOC mission is to do FID (Foreign Internal Defense) aka mentoring the ANA, more specifically their Commandos.
As Afghan Commandos run Woodland, their also run woodland so they don't stand out and become prime targets when operating with them. Woodland also works surprisingly well in A-stan (with MJK nylon and some dust).

Re: Crye woodland cammies
Irony is it was the USMC that started the woodland change.Conker wrote:A large part of the MARSOC mission is to do FID (Foreign Internal Defense) aka mentoring the ANA, more specifically their Commandos.

Regardless what they wear they`ll still stand out because of their body type.Besides the ANA have been wearing digicams.Too many US cams equates too much costs.

Conker is 100% correct. The ANA Commandos are wearing woodland.
Oh yeh.....VERY jealous of the woodland Crye set, Kan!

Re: Crye woodland cammies
Yup...it`s just the irony of getting back to woodland as the marines were waaaayy too protective of their MARPAT pattern.Conker wrote:ANA Commandos currently use the woodland.

Re: Crye woodland cammies
True. UCP, NWU and DTS were all pretty retarded and all those got replaced by Multicam/OCP at some point for those going outside the wire. That's a whole other debate, but IMHO there's more to that than just the Marines wanting to be recognized as Marines.

Re: Crye woodland cammies
Not a marine mate but sorry to disagree.USMC is not "the few and the proud" for nothing.Even during the days of the woodland camo you can tell a marine from the next woodland wearing personnel by the way the sleeves were folded around the arms. They were folded inside out. That`s one way of telling who was who then.Conker wrote:True. BTW I believe they were also the first ones to have their service insignia EGA imprinted on their then new MARPAT BDUs...and the rest is camo history.

In 77 with CF. we used cigarette pack, cut them to regulation size and inserted them when folding my sleeves inside out,
Then taking my Iron making a perfect crisp crease. Since WWII the USMCorps marked Gear as BU's with
the USMC or Old Black EGA, the Corps loves to mark their Property, like a Bull-Dog in heat, Lol, the "US ARMY" U.S.
However my Sustainment Gen I & II as other Pouches that have The USMC tag have U.S. in Black Stamped
on the pouch.
The first ones, hummmmmmm see "1st Marine Corps" "Per Terra et Mare" in insight
the USMC Motto "Semper Fidelis " is also CF's. The West Nova Scotia Regiment Motto.
See "1st. Marine Corps" embedded black insignia as on Tags 2002 Issue, Personally that Camo I have Issue with.

Re: Crye woodland cammies
Ok first off, your reply has no point in my topic, two your sentences make no sense get a better translation program please. Stop thread jacking, especially mine, I don't care for your short sighted obsession with the EGA and USMC being embedded in everything, thats just not true.
On topic, got some of the Crye kneepads in in green and put them in the pants, they look AWESOME. I'll be putting up some more pics later. I'm going to be using these for airsoft, I hope they hold up better than they do for MARSOC marines.
And Conker NWU was never meant for OTW use, they are simply meant to be a maintenence uniform where stains and such wouldn't be as visible as they would on the old work uniforms.

Re: Crye woodland cammies
You're absolutely right, it called "working uniform" for a reason! It's just that I remember seeing a few pics of Navy personel using them on the ground in the 'stan and, well... that sucked. That didn't last long, from what I understood they quickly ended up using the uniforms of the branch whose FOB they were based, but still...
I believe it was Navy EOD, but that was quite a while ago.

Re: Crye woodland cammies
I was under the assumtion the DCU is still the go to uniform for ITW personnel for the forsee able future. NWU 2/3 (what ever the desert one is) is reserved for NSW support units, if I'm remembering the blurp about it.
