Not sure but did Iraq itself manufacture these? They had quite the industrial complex. My money is on Russian/Soviet.

Just checked, mine has the rectangular box stamp type label with cyrillic characters. My guess is your helmet is one of the warsaw pact countries that uses english style letters, I note the manuf date is 1980, but also note that the english style letters are part of your marking, that would seem unlikely for the iraqis to not use arabic. Additionally I'm curious that for the most part, does iraq have a climate that calls for a fur lined winter helmet which is what this is?
    Just speculation on my part.

Iraq used items purchased from around the world , this helmet came from Iraq ,captured by a friend of mine who was there, yes they wore whatever version they had on hand and bought from many countries , this case , Poland .

Don't doubt that in the least. I guess I misunderstood and thought the belief was this was an iraqi made helmet.

I've frozen my arse off over there enough times that I'd say yes. Cold is a relative term. When you're miserable and no way to warm up, 40 degrees farenheight can be cold. I've had it snow on me a couple of times there (Tikrit) and guys up north near Turkey have been hit by blizzards while on convoy support.
