Wow, this is nice; I haven't seen one of these before. As a DPM fanatic, this is amazing!

I have one of these and kinda used, tags washed /worn out but but I guess with sweat. These were made for the MOD by SASS at the start of the war in very very very low numbers.

Quite correct. These are not MoD issue as such but some were likely made as a batch by SASS and paid for from unit funds. IIRC these were made from a 100% cotton material and not actually very windproof. It was more the SAS layout and good ventilation that were the goals.
There was an official MoD issue gaberdine Desert 'SAS' smock (unwired hood) but it didn't come out until a year or two after GW1. Unlike the one above, it had big khaki windproof sized buttons.

B20 I can see you being my Nemesis I didn't know they did the shorts, or were these cut down trousers? I have two shirts and a set of trousers...have been looking a long long time for one of the windproofs...amazing collection!!! Do you have any history on the Smock?

Here's tag from the shorts
These shorts are the more rare ghosting sparse camo more rare than the tropical sparse, in fact only garment I've seen other than frag covers. They seem to be experimental/ prototypes and nobody knows about them.
This is windproof but its only windproof in cut , the cloth is actually standard fluffy sparse desert.
