Pentagon S.A.: Contract or Commercial? Empty Pentagon S.A.: Contract or Commercial?

Post by APreston Fri Nov 11, 2011 12:46 am

In my search for a Greek cap I found a Greek-based airsoft website which in turn gave me a lead to a company called Pentagon S.A. based out of Greece. My Greek isn't nearly enough to be able to make heads or tails of their interactive catalog so I can't tell if they're a legit Greek military contractor or simply a really accurate commercial vendor like Propper is. Anyone able to shed light on this?

By the looks of it this is a commercial company, similar to Propper, Tru-Spec, etc. Usually this sort of website format is commercial, especially since they produce US type things and have them right next to the Greek stuff.

Of course Greek soldiers might very well use this stuff. I received a Greek Army uniform one step away from the actual soldier who wore it. Top has Greek markings, trousers English. The guy I got it from was told nobody in the Greek military cares where their items come from.

Propper has 2 branches, a US based branch which ONLY supplies stuff to the US military, and a civilian/LEO branch which is based in Honduras and supplies everyone else. All the Propper items you see on shelves are made in Honduras.

That would certainly explain the variation in color one finds in the Greek uniforms. Soldiers buying better-made stuff, stuff to suit individual preference, etc. Thanks for the insight, still going to look for some legit surplus but these guys may prove a good resource to have on hand.

Correct. The cloth, however, is sometimes the same cloth as they use for DoD contracted items, sometimes the poly counts are different. At least that's been the case in the past with the BDUs.

Back in the BDU/DCU days there was pretty much no practical difference between the stuff Propper made for the DoD and that which was made for the public (unless the poly count was different). Obviously the tags were different Wink However, with the ACUs the DoD cloth is IR treated and there are IR tabs on the sleeves. This is not true of the commercial versions. I don't know if there is any effective difference in the ABUs.

Propper assembles in the Dominican Republic, too.
