Those were specced as "map pockets", and they only exist in the first generation ABU (the pen pockets are on the left sleeve).

Second generation ABUs do not have them (these 2G ABUs are basically BDUs in the digital tiger stripe pattern) due to "heat issues" over in the middle east.

Also, the U.S. Air Force has recently started issuing 100% cotton ripstop ABUs (presumably without the map pockets)

Thx thas intresting. What u think about the 2e ABU?Is that a later style?(coz of the different label?)second generation?(I dont now if it has inside pockets coz i dont hav it yet.)

The Air Force only allows the wear of the 100% cotton ABUs for Fire Fighters and certain CE career fields.

Sounds like it makes them more collectible

There are not a lot ABU outthere for sale, why's that?Are they more collectible then dcu ore bdu's?

For one thing, they've not been in service for as long as DCUs and BDUs have.

This alone will account for their relative rarity.

The jacket arrived today and the internal(map) pockets were/are removed.So i must be a 1st model jacket.

Thats not a Sergeant BTW, thats a Senior Airman top, and the skill badge is that of a maintainer is I'm seeing it right.
