    Lightweight Jacket Empty Lightweight Jacket

Post by Easy Gee Thu Apr 12, 2012 9:10 am

    Hi Guys.

I recently bought this Rhodesian Jacket, it is made by Dux Uniforms Pty Ltd, I carried out some research and there is an example by this manufacturer on the Imperial war Museum website, and there it made some references to a Transkei connection, from the person who donated the Uniform??

So over to you guys , anyone heard of these type of jackets and specifically the manufacturer of thee garments. Also if someone could give me an idea of the era these were worn would also be very useful to me, and as a result much appreciated.

BTW-I paid £23.00 for this Jacket which I hope is not too expensive for a Jacket of this type!!!!

Thanks for looking, and hoping someone here can help,Gary Wink

This jacket is not Rhodesian. It is from the Republic of Transkei. The Transkei Defence Forces was formed in 1976 and contnued on through to 1994 when Transkei was dissolved and the Defence Forces re-integrated into the South African National Defence Forces. This uniform would be from the latter period and is not that hard to source. I believe Trident still has stocks of this pattern.

Excellent many thanks filupe, that is brilliant to have such swift confirmation on it's identity, the seller obviously didn't realise it was Transkei, but then neither did I till right now, that would explain why the IWM mentioned Trankei, I just thought there was some loose connection there!!

Sorry for posting it in the wrong section, any chance of putting it in the right section for me, this would help others I guess, and keep the Rhodesian area tidier.

Cheers Mate, really appreciate the input Very Happy

No worries Gary. The seller may have been fooled by the cut of the jacket which is almost identical to the Rhodesian camouflage bush jacket.

Hopefully some of our resident Southern African specialists can shed further light on this item ...

I just realized how remarkably similar this jacket is to the Rhodesian late combat jacket. Down to the oval elbow reinforcements.

the fact that Ron Reid daly and several other former Selous Scouts had a big part in forming and commanding the Transkei Defemce Force probably explains the cut of this jacket, BTW this cammo pattern is the second the first cammo pattern was even more like the Rhodesian brus stroke but its rarer then rocking horse kak now.
