I'm guessing there wasn't as much rush to produce the boonie apposed to a tropic uniform. The 1st desert kit was rushed out with this print on them. I guess when the cloth was used up and the 2nd run 2 colour printed on 4 part screens ( making a ghost effect ) they had time to produce boonies and helmet covers.
My experience with desert camo is this.
I've seen genuine current print 4 print camo that was scrapped inside early clothing garments. This cloth was a more nylon style like 1980's tropicals. I recon then they produced a 3 part ghost camo same as this shirt but with ghosts in the pink. This was made from 1980's weight cloth and moved to frag vest covers. Then they produced this shirt, dedicated 2 colour no ghosting and made from light loose fabric. Then the 2 colour 4 screen ghost camo in light loose fabric that went fluffy in a warm wash. Then a dedicated 2 colour print like we have today printed towards the end of the war, then we get slight print additions after the war but made on war time cloth. Then we went to the cheese/tea bag cloth.
