RACAL Tank/AFV Helmet+Carry Bag-Info Needed Please.

Anybody please got any info or pics of this type of helmet in use as I cannot find any info regarding era, usage etc.

There is a very similar looking helmet,same shape shell but the headphones are a separate part and can be removed and worn alone(over a beret or whatever) but the headphones on this are integral to the helmet.

Spent hours on the Net trying to find any info/pics on these and only pic I could find is of an Australian wearing one so wonder if they are Australian issue and not British as thought originally?

nice example and identical to mine but definately not aussie gulf the ref pic you provided shows no flared ear cowlings as in these ,and the seller of my example told me it came from brit forces in afghanistan ,the bracket on the front is for a sand shield allthough most wear goggles strangely mine has the same number in black pen on the tag the plot thickens

On reflection,the Aussie pic is im sure of the previous type as used Gulf 91(which I had hoped mine was-along with the other 5 that came in the job lot!!!!)

Surprisingly,I have trawled the net and couldnt find any pics of the current or even 2000 onwards AFV helmet in use with say Challenger crews,AFV/APC crews etc.

What is also confusing is that unlike the 80s Dan Dare type helmet these have no Issue labes etc only the makers-RACAL label so am really stumped with these.

Also James you mention sand shield as a use for the bracket to the front,any more info or pics regarding this?

hi gulf im afraid ive no referance pics whatsoever the seller of mine told me about the bracket after i enquired ive had my suspicions that this model is basically a chopped down and trimmed version of the latest british mk7 after some fruitless research i hit the nail on the head i believe this is designated the np aerospace ac800 low and behold the next model up in there range is the np ac900 which is basically the off the shelf version of the mk7 its the best i can come up with so far what are your thoughts cheers james

Aussies certainly do use the Racal comms system but they have modified them for use with the US DH-132 Ballistic Shell

Looks similar to that one but sure that is the earlier 90s one???
