sorry for bringing up such an old thread, but.....
Awesome bush jacket tunic. Based on the buttons and insignia, I think it dates from the post-colonial era. Tanganyika gained independence from Great Britain in 1961, and changed its name to Tanzania in approximately 1964, so I would guess your uniform dates from that period.
I have a very similar Tanganyika Police tunic to yours, which, according to the documentation which came with it, dates to the 1950s. Mine has the British colonial era police buttons and insignia, which differ from yours in that the colonial era "Tanganyika Police" buttons featured a giraffe's head instead of a torch. I would guess your tunic is from the period immediately following independence. Like yours, mine has no labels or markings other than the attached insignia. Probably, it was locally made.
