The SSI was used for the 56th Artillery which switcheds designations through its history. First it was 56th Artillery Brigade 6/71-4/72, then 56th Field Artillery Brigade 4/72-1/86 and finally 56th Field Artillery Command 1/86-6/91. It was Regular U.S. Army stationed in Germany.
The tab was worn over the U.S. Seventh Army SSI from 9/70 - 6/71, then over the 56th Artillery SSI until 6/91. Obviously it denotes that the unit operated Pershing tactical missiles.
