Tiger stripe set Questions Empty Tiger stripe set Questions

Post by CBLA Sat May 11, 2013 9:44 pm

As I still can't get photo's to post , i have a couple questions on a tiger set I picked up . The tag is green and difficult to read , can make out "Jacket Combat tiger stripe" at the bottom "made in USA" on the back inside collar "US M" the jacket has two pockets on the chest , two buttons each and a small arm pocket . Pants tag faded to light green unreadable , two front pockets , two rear pockets , two cargo pockets , one small pocket under cargo pocket , small buckle sizers and a silver zipper "Talon" marked . They are medium weight cotton , not ripstop .
Any information would be a great help . Thanks
    Cheers Chris

    Hey CBLA,

The tigers you describe could be Tigerstripe Products made items

I do not believe any VN era tigers were ever made in the US.

Most were made in VN, but also made in Japan, Thailand, the Philippines ...

I think the fact that your set was US made is a giveaway that they are commercially made.

Don't write these sets off as cheap copies, the early sets like you describe marked US-M ( this mark was discontinued before 1987 ). These can fetch very good money 2nd hand because they are a collectors item in their own right.

I've seen these go on eBay plus $50 per item for early examples before they were produced by TRUSPEC.

Military procurement was done through the Defense Supply Agency 1962-1977 and all contracts had a DSA prefix. The dates were by fiscal year...July 1 through June 30. Fiscal year 1962 had a DSA 1 prefix and E-62 suffix. 1963 and 1964 were the same but substitute "63" or "64" in the suffix. Fiscal year 1965 will just have the DSA 1 prefix and no date code. Fiscal year 1966 will have a DSA 100 prefix and no date code. Starting in 1967 there will be a DSA 100 prefix plus a two digit date code. So, for example, fiscal year 1968 contracts will have a DSA 100-68 prefix.

    Contract numbers
WW2 - 195? no prefix - Contract for U.S Marine Corps (BuSandA symbol, stamped in sleeve)
1946 - 195? "Supply Department of the United States Marine Corps" and date (stamped in sleeve)
    1953 – 1961 DA (Defense Agency)
confirmed examples of contract numbers: 1957 – 1961 DA prefix on the tag
    1962 – 1977 DSA (Defense Supply Agency)
confirmed examples of contract numbers: 1962 – 1977 DSA prefix on the tag
    1978 – 1993 DLA (Defense Logistic Agency)
confirmed examples of contract numbers: 1978 – 1993 DLA prefix on the tag
    1994 – 2003 SPO (System Program Offices)
confirmed examples of contract numbers: 1994 – present SPO prefix on the tag

    Stock numbers
    195? - 1956 example of stock number "72-R-307-112" ????
    1957 – 1975 FSN (Federal stock number), 11-digit number
1975 – present NSN (National stock number), 13-digit number

There was a guy selling 3 Tiger Stripe Industries items on Ebay UK(ended today)-shirt,trs and hat.

Not sure if I still have them on my watch list but think both the shirt+trs were starting at £40 each and the hat at £20.

Mr brokenarrrow won 1 of the items Im sure.

    Hey CBLA,

I echo what bravo_2_zero said about Tigerstripe Products being collectible, especially the early version.

BTW. that was alot of good info, thanks bravo_2_zero.

I sold a few back in the day, and left myself without one. Actively trying to persuade my brother in law to relinquish his, one of the sets I sold.

    Hold on to those puppies.....

    Hey CBLA

A later version of your Tiger suit just sold on ebay for $138.41. It did not have the flat buttons that are correct with the early version; it had the same type of buttons that are currently in use with modern US made uniform items.

Based on that alone, your set is potentially worth a bit north of that..

    Thanks for the up-date Ripcord
My set is worn , has a repair to the pants etc . That is why I thought it might have been original .
Still up in the air as to what to do with it . But for that kind of money maybe e-bay would be the thing to do .
Thanks again for all the information .
