Strange Pattern, Commercial? Empty Strange Pattern, Commercial?

Post by drmatz Tue Sep 03, 2013 2:33 pm

I was researching photos for Thai forest rangers when i came across this one...
the guy in the far right is in thailand with other forest rangers, he is definitely western person, so im assuming he is giving some kind of assistance and training to the thai soldiers (hence the cardboard guns)... now the camo he is wearing is very interesting and unique... anybody has ever seeing it before?
I think is a commercial pattern, but im not sure.

now im not sure if these are all the same pattern... any thoughts?

The Caucasian wearing the Aussie boonie  seems to be wearing some sort of treebark camouflage.

All the other patterns are very interesting, especially ( to me ) the tiger pattern.

    Good post...

    Interesting pics!

There's quite a few commercial hunter patterns that are heavily bark/leaf based. I'm sure it's one of them, less the Aussie boonie and possible Aussie LBV. Given the guy's look, his boonie, Australia's leading effort in wildlife management, and this being Thailand... my guess is that the instructor is Aussie.

Having said that, the Thai instructor has rank on his collar. Maybe it's not completely unofficial?

The other uniforms appear to be issued. They are the same and they are obviously well used. I'm not including the woman to the "Aussie" guy's right in the first picture. She appears to be an interpreter or working in some similar capacity.

well, let me put this into context a bit.
The other uniforms are from Thai ranger forests, both instructors are from a foundation company called "Freeland", they provide assistance, training, logistics for "wild life" sanctuaries thru out the word, mostly on south east asia... So they are a private company training forest rangers in thailand...
As rip and you pointed out it seems that the aussie instructor is wearing a branch/hunter pattern, but in the first photo it doesn't look like the same pattern... it's more a of Tiger stripes based pattern... hard to say, but definitely an interesting uniform.

The LBV is definitely Aussie - made by Combat Clothing in Southport, Qld. Issued to SASR but also a popular private purchase vest in the early 1990's.

I think it's the same uniform, just the upper arm (the most visible spot) in the first picture is a less dense part of the pattern.

OK, so the contracting company probably bought a bunch of these uniforms and had it's corporate stuff put on it, such as the arm badge and collar insignia. Rather than the individuals were hired by the Thai government directly and they brought whatever they wanted to the party. Makes sense to me.
