DBDU Seabees

Hi All.

I would like some opinions on this DBDU Seabees used piece, the Seabees transfer appears to be genuine and has a rough textured feel to it, whereas the Name and USN is clearly penned on ..sharpied !

The Left sleeve upper has remnants of a shield shaped patch, the Right remnants of a stars and stripes patch.

Basically my question is what patches did USN personnel have sewn on their jackets, all in all a bit of a weird one!

I sold one identical to yours but a different guys name.

Just to note too, just google desert storm/ shield and its quiet rare to see troops in theatre with any patches and the ones that do are all OD green. The lack of a rank maybe down to lack of an ink stamped one being made.

Thanks b20, it's odd you sold one similar, do think this was a common thing them, for seabees to pen on their name etc, funny enough I saw one on US ebay with the same features as mine to,which again makes me think that maybe this was the case..not sure!!

Completely agree, nearly all ref pics I have seen show a distinct lack of branch tapes etc, there are the exceptions ,some I have seen have sand coloured branch tapes, which I understand were made in Kuwait?

It looks to me that  US Navy, and name have been stenciled in  above the top pockets.

This was  common practice when I was in the USN.  Sometimes the stenciling would not be completely legible, so individuals would " fix " that by using a sharpie, or similar marker to fill in the spots that did not come out right.

Stencils were used to mark  working uniforms when a recruit would mark their issue clothing while attending boot camp. This practice would continue once the recruit went to the Fleet.

Excellent that's just the confirmation I needed, an Ex-USN guy giving first hand experience of this "sharpie" phenomenon.

In hindsight I should have provided close up pics of the name etc.
