Hi Gents,
I have not posted in this forum nearly enough and wanted to rectify that with a picture or two of a very rare item from my own collection. This being the early trials square water bottle and cup intended for use in the Pattern 1958 webbing set. There is an interesting story regarding how this piece ended up in my hands. I had worked out a trade with a very dear friend of mine, now deceased, who had picked this up with the OG nylon carrier pictured, while attending a military show in the 1970's.
The two of us had decided that in order to limit our conflict in collecting similar items of British Militaria, we would each take a particular period. He would collect from the turn of the century through the end of the Second World War, and I would collect items from 1939 to the present. That separation being agreed upon, we exchanged our various bits of kit and I received this item while he picked up my P03 and earlier items.
At the time we did this exchange I had absolutely no idea of what it was I had received. I was fairly certain it was British based on comparisons to my early green 1958 water bottle, and since I could not find any reference to it, I assumed it must be rare. When Karkee Web put their 58 webbing section online, I basically jumped and screamed when I saw this water bottle and cup illustrated. It is always good when a plan comes together.

The OG pouch is an Infared torch pouch that the water bottle fits perfectly into. I would like to know what the actual torch looks like if anyone has a picture. I will try and post some other items as time allows.
