Italian Web Gear

This is the 1990s Alice style Italian web gear. I'm not sure what I am missing but I know I am missing something. Curious what the prior pattern consisted of.

Does anyone know what the D ring on the belt is for?

I haven't managed to lay hands on any of the Italian ALICE gear yet, but I think there is nylon belt, closer to the US type, that was made for this gear. I am not certain if the belt you have there is Italian, but more than likely the D-ring is intended to mate up with the rear strap of a set of braces. Could this belt be Turkish?

According this Italian thread, it is Italian. Still wonder what suspenders that ring attaches to.

Just picked this up. Not sure if it police issue or what but I was told it is Italian.

These are some very interesting Italian ALICE pouches I picked up. I am assuming they made these for Iraq but switched to the LB vest system, as I have never seen pictures of them in use.

The pistol belt set is police-issue I believe. The desert stuff is nice, and I have seen some various other types of Italian pouches in the desert shade, mostly similar to the green ALICE type webbing.

Any idea what the suspenders here are? It looks like it was used in Mozambique in 1993. Notice they are much thinner than the standard ALICE ones.

I have also not seen the pouch set up either. Hopefully some of our Italian members can help.

Here are my desert Italian pouches. These used in Somalia and Mozambique. I will post some pictures of them in use when I can find them. Note that they are very similar to the OD ALICE pouches with the addition of a snap to secure the closure.

Here are the desert pouches on Italian 9th Paras in Somalia.

Here is a San Marco belt (still looking for the suspenders and ammunition pouches that go with it), and first aid pouch, obviously patterned after the US GI type. I am not sure what the D-ring is for.

Maybe the D ring is for a life vest connection??? Any idea what the suspenders look like?

From the poor quality photos I have seen, they are essentially similar to the 1937 pattern (as are the magazine pouches), but made from a darker canvas, like the belt. However, photos also exist of these older belts used with the newer style ALICE gear, like the set you posted at the top of the thread.

Belt was apparently specially made for the G.O.I. "Incursori" of the COMSUBIN. Still don't know what the loop is for.

I was finally able to locate the Italian web gear used by the Alpini in Mozambique 1993-1994 (shown in pictures above). Apparently it was experimental. If anyone has additional information, would love to know more. Also shown is the desert flak vest they generally used in Mozambique.

Only place they wore that vest in both green and desert camo. What do you have so far? Is there a particular unit you are looking to recreate?
