NORWAY DESERT CAMOUFLAGE
Here is unfortunately only 1 photo of my Norwegian set...I had plenty more photos but thanks to a computer crash....a file with literally close to 1000 of my photos got deleted or lost...needless to say I was none to pleased about that.

Re: NORWAY DESERT CAMOUFLAGE
thanks...yeah...it is a unissued one. The story I got with it was that it came from a special operator direct to the guy I bought it from. unfortunately that is the only Norwegian uniform I have...I have not seen that many around to buy...BUT I am always on the lookout for more...

How'd I miss this thread?
Very nice uniforms, guys! I haven't seen too many Norwegian uniforms in collections.

Re: NORWAY DESERT CAMOUFLAGE
There are basically two versions of the uniform. One is solid cloth and the other ripstop. I have two of the solid cloth versions (2004 and 2007) that use different cloth types. The first one is a standard cotton/poly blend, the other uses the "permathin" (I think I have the spelling correct) anti-mosquito cloth. There are some minor construction differences, the most significant being the 2007 model has velcro knee pockets for pads.

Re: NORWAY DESERT CAMOUFLAGE
I just acquired this suit. It was the first desert kit used by Norwegian forces in Afghanistan before they got their own pattern. It is made by the NFM company who produce much of the special kit used by the Norwegians. The cloth is lighter than the usual twill cloth used in USA 3 colour desert suits.

" />
Compare this with the latest version, also made by NFM. Cut is very similar.

Re: NORWAY DESERT CAMOUFLAGE
Very interesting! Never knew they wore 3 Color, but I guess it doesn't surprise me as many nations were caught without desert kit.
Question about the later type. Are the colors really that bright and strong, or is that just a trick of the light?

Colour
The colours of the latest smock are brighter than the earlier ones but not as bright as in that photo.I did not take the photo but I see from the properties that flash was not used!

Re: NORWAY DESERT CAMOUFLAGE
Following my previous posts, I thought it would be useful to show some comparisons between the 4 versions of the Norwegian Desert Smocks I have. First photo shows all 4 with a pair of non ripstop desert trousers for comparison.
" />
They are in chronological order from left to right:
1. 3 colour desert used as a stop gap before they got their own pattern
2. Nomex 1st pattern
3. Nomex 2nd pattern
4. Nyco 3rd pattern
" />
The Nomex smocks are a much heavier cloth than the others and have a distinctive pinker hue.The 1st pattern Nomex is a much more "technical" design than the others and clearly cost more to make. They are all made by NFM
" />
" />
The latest pattern is made of lighter NYCO cloth and most closely resembles the current rip stop suits in colour match.

Re: NORWAY DESERT CAMOUFLAGE
Wow! I never knew these existed at all. Great finds.
NOMEX type cloth is a particularly difficult one to get the right colors to stick. Even when they look OK new they can go in an entirely different direction. I've got some experimental German Flecktarn items in NOMEX type cloth that look very different brand new and then look wildly different after being washed and worn. The new fire resistant ARAMID stuff used by the US and UK seems to take colors far better.

Re: NORWAY DESERT CAMOUFLAGE
Woaw-woaw-woaw!!
I've only known NFM to make sturdy pouches, personal protection and bergans/packs, but never seen this type of smock from their hand...
Well done to you, Sir Sean!!
And the NOMEX garments looks much more 'supple' than most printed NOMEX fabrics I've ever held, which may explain a more thorough coloration or deeper hue. Most printed 100% NOMEX fabrics looks dusty or faded, like Steve says even brand new, against items in the same pattern, made of twill or NYCO.
Again my hat is off to you!!

Re: NORWAY DESERT CAMOUFLAGE
Nice comparison, Gilles.
For those of you who need some Norwegian desert uniforms, send me a PM. I am in the process of acquiring duplicates of at least two types, perhaps all three. Sizes are all unknown. They should be in my hands late September.

Re: NORWAY DESERT CAMOUFLAGE
Stumbled onto this one last week...
Had been looking for trousers to match a non ripstop coat for awhile so I could have a set, but this is much better..
Did find trousers to match my lonely M98 top..
