No ideas at all.  Hessian pouch?  Open along whole length of one side, with long (unequal length) straps on each end.

Hessian material is very open, and you can "see" through it to some extent.

Has anyone got the faintest idea what it is?  Thanks.

I have a couple of these that I found in a surplus warehouse in Belgium. I don't know what they are for certain, but I have a feeling these might be from engineering stores, and somehow related to explosives and/or demolition work. Note also that there seem to be measured graduations marked on the webbing tie straps in red ink, however that might be relevant.

Thanks, I hadn't noticed that red mrks might be measurements. I will have to check in daylight.

Could they be for securing demolition charges, dropped into the open pocket perhaps?

This is the best theory that I have. I believe they were referred to as 'explosives bags' where I bought mine.
