The badge is an army badge I think it might be an early armoured beret but I could be wrong.

Not BW. The badge is for peaked caps for all Army forces and is not for use on berets. The beret itself is also not German. However, there were times when German soldiers private purchased berets from... hmmm... I think it was Spain? I can't quite read the writing, but it appears to be Spanish, Portuguese, or Italian.
