Re: Help with boonie hat
The anachronistic DSA poses a problem here, but the NSN comes up in databases as 'hat, camouflage,'; unfortunately, the size is not given, but that NSN would normally refer to a particular size.
Usually the commercial copies say something like 'Made in USA,' and do not have accurate NSNs. Could there be more to the story with this one?
It is hard to judge the materials/colours any further without higher res images.

Re: Help with boonie hat
Hmm. Good question. My experience is few manufacturers put fake contract numbers on them because that is a big legal no-no. As in fraud. Likewise, the fake contract numbers I've seen tend to be really wrong. This one looks like the correct format, a plausible date for the item (1982), consistent information on the rest of the label, and the right type of material for the label.
So I too am confused by this. DSA should, in theory, not be on a 1984 item. But anybody who was interested in faking a contract number to this extent would probably not have changed the date or if so known to change it to DLA or even SPO. Here's some info on the differences:

Re: Help with boonie hat
The DSA could simply be an error on the label too - it is only one letter off.

Seller insists Gov't. Issue, with the Wide Brim being the uncommon feature. It does make sense that a "Ranger" boonie that was not loved by Rangers would be a short-lived product, indeed-- but the 1980's was like that. Australia tried to get wide-brim boonies to work, too-- but I think that most people prefer something less floppy.
